CONWAY, SC – Conway Medical Center’s Weight Loss Surgery Program has become nationally recognized as an Accredited Center and Comprehensive Center with Adolescent Qualifications by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), a division of the American College of Surgeons (ACS).

CMC’s Weight Loss Surgery Program became an accredited center in March of 2013, but recently became only one of two centers in the state of South Carolina to have adolescent qualifications.

MBSAQIP accredits inpatient and outpatient bariatric surgery centers in North American that have undergone an independent, voluntary and rigorous peer evaluation in accordance with nationally recognized bariatric surgical standards.  The program recognizes facilities that implement defined standards of care, document outcomes and participate in regular reviews to evaluate bariatric surgical programs.    The adolescent program provides an individualized treatment plan for young adults ages 14-18.

Morris Washington, MD, FACS, Director of the Metabolic & Weight Loss Surgery Center at CMC says, “Our team works one on one with each patient to provide individualized care in helping them make lasting lifestyle changes.  Bariatric surgery is just one step in the path towards a lifetime of good health.  This accreditation shows our commitment and accountability for the best quality of patient care.”
