Why Volunteer?
People volunteer for many reasons. It may be because they wish to become actively involved in the community, meet new people, explore career possibilities, share skills and experience, or just because it feels good to give an extra special touch when people are sick.
Who are the Volunteers?
Volunteers at Conway Medical Center are over the age of 18, professional men and women, students, and many retirees. There are volunteer opportunities for nearly everyone's time and talents. Volunteering might mean direct patient contact or it may mean service in the less visible, yet equally essential, support services. Volunteers are placed in jobs that correspond to their interests, and they receive special training in that area.
What is the Auxiliary?
Volunteers who play an active role in our Medical Center's Auxiliary. As a member of the Auxiliary, you will be involved in the various fund-raising events and projects supporting the Medical Center.
Health Requirements
The physical and mental ability to perform the tasks required by the position profile. A PPD Test is required prior to volunteering and a PPD test is required annually. PPD is the test to determine if you have been exposed to tuberculosis.
Benefits for Volunteers
In addition to the intangible but wonderful feeling of being needed, our volunteers reap many other benefits. They meet new friends, learn new skills, enjoy fun-filled events such as the Awards/Appreciation Luncheon, Volunteer Week, Holiday luncheon to name a few. A service pin is awarded after a minimum of 75 hours of volunteer work and presented at the Awards/Appreciation Luncheon. Volunteers receive free meals in the cafeteria during the shift they work, discount rates at the Wellness and Fitness Center and a discount on prescriptions at the Conway Medical Center Pharmacy.
What Our Volunteers Are Saying?
My children are grown and volunteering makes me feel needed again. Since I've been a widow, I've had too much free time. Working at the hospital fills a lot of empty hours. With many jobs available, I was able to find one that was perfect for me. The patients and staff at Conway Medical Center benefit greatly from services provided by volunteers. The Medical Center is especially appreciative of the selfless service of its volunteers who really do make a difference.
