CMC foundation recEIves BiLo Grant

The CMC Foundation recently received $5,000 from BiLo Charities to support the CMC Smart Snacks program.

The CMC Foundation plans to use this funding to support the Smart Snacks program, formally know as Backpack Buddies.  The program is a service of the CMC Healthreach initiative, serving the medically uninsured and underserved of Horry County.

Conway Medical Center is currently serving 662 elementary school children at Homewood Elementary, Waccamaw Elementary, Conway Elementary and Midlands Elementary Schools that have been identified by their teachers and counselors as not having adequate nutrition on the weekends and during extended holidays during the school year.  The program costs nearly $12,000 per year per school to run successfully.  Support has come from Sonic, the CMC Auxilary, Santee Cooper, CMC Employees, local civic organizations and many individuals.

"We are proud to be a part of the Charity Classic Tournament, which gives us the ability to support some of the most vital organizations in our community, and we are honored to award grants to organizations like the Conway Medical Center Foundation, which has changed so many lives for the better," said Carol Browning, Director of BiLo Charities.
