August 26, 2008-Conway, SC- The Conway Medical Center Foundation recently received a gift in the amount of $25,000 to establish the Dr. and Mrs. William R. Griffin Endowment to honor the late Dr. Robert “Bob” Griffin, and his wife, the late Betty Anne Griffin.

Dr. Griffin came to the Conway area in 1958, and became one of Horry County’s first doctors to be board certified in obstetrics and gynecology. He was an active member of the Conway community as a member of the First United Methodist Church, and serving on the Conway Medical Center Board of Trustees. He retired from practice in 1990, and died in January 2005.

Mrs. Griffin taught high school English prior to moving to the Conway area where she raised three children. She was an active in Scouting, in her church, and a member of the Conway Medical Center Auxiliary for many years.

The gift, given by the Griffin’s son, Mr. Robert Griffin, Jr. of Myrtle Beach, will be used in perpetuity to enhance the level of healthcare given to the patients of Conway Medical Center.

Dr. and Mrs. Griffin will be honored as members of the Legacy Society at the Conway Medical Center Foundation Winter Gala to be held January 24, 2009.

The CMC Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation established in 1988 as a charitable organization to provide support for Conway Medical Center. Resources for the Foundation are obtained from donations, memorial gifts, planned gifts, grants, special events and other resources.
