Conway Medical Center is proud to announce that Amy Thorn, LMSW, CBPN-IC, has received the designation of Certified Breast Patient Navigator through The National Consortium of Breast Centers, Inc.

The Breast Patient Navigator Certification Program emphasizes Thorn’s personal and professional commitment to providing quality care for CMC breast health patients. Thorn works to empower patients, through education and support, to become informed participants in their medical care.  She also helps the patient work through barriers to their breast care.  Having assistance and coaching from a navigator greatly reduces the complexity of the breast care continuum.

Thorn is certified to navigate a patient through breast imaging and breast cancer care process and to ensure the patient receives timely exam results and is scheduled for appropriate follow-up care or next routine imaging exam.  If a patient has a suspicious breast abnormality she continues to provide emotional support and monitor them to ensure resolution, timely diagnosis and treatment. Thorn is one of four Certified Breast Patient Navigators in the state of South Carolina; the other three are located in the Greenville, SC area.

Thorn has been employed at Conway Medical Center as the Breast Health Patient Navigator since February of 2012.  She graduated with a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Louisville in Louisville, KY.  Thorn is a member of the Coastal Cancer Collaborative and the National Consortium of Breast Centers.
