Conway Medical Center (CMC) and Conway Physicians Group (CPG) announce the opening of the new affiliate office, CPG Family Medicine @ 11^th Ave. - Aynor. Martin F. Carmichael, MD is the practicing physician at the office.

Conway Medical Center (CMC) Foundation answered the call from State Farm® to submit causesthat would make a positive impact in their neighborhood. Now CMC Foundation’s Smart Snacks needs your “assist” by voting them to the top and bringing money to Horry County. Beginning March 12, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and continuing every Tuesday until April 2, CMC Wellness and Fitness Center will be holding a Female Self-Defense Course. This four week course is designed for women, and its purpose is to train women how to escape holds and grabs if being attacked.

 On February 27 and again on March 26, CMC Wellness & Fitness Center will be holding a Weight Loss Workshop. The workshop is derived from the book, Common Sense Weight Loss by CMC Wellness & Fitness director, Jonathan Gibson.

Two Conway Physician Group (CPG) offices will be offering extended and weekend hours, due to increased patient volumes and to provide additional convenience for patients.

Beginning February 5 and continuing on February 19 and 21 from 5-6:30 p.m., CMC will offer the QuitSmart® program, a three session smoking cessation class to help smokers quit smoking. The QuitSmart® program will show participants how to ease off nicotine using a unique brand-fading procedure and show other methods of quitting which will multiply chances of success.

Charles G. Sasser, M.D., FACP, FAAHPM, director of palliative care services at Conway Medical Center was named a recipient of the 2013 Hastings Center Cunniff-Dixon Physician Award. This award is given to those physicians who have distinguished themselves in caring for patients near the end of life.

 As part of Tanger Outlet Center’s national effort to battle breast cancer, Tanger Outlet Centers Myrtle Beach recently donated $22,602.97 to Conway Medical Center Foundation’s Mammography Initiative.

Conway Medical Center has been awarded a $1,800 grant from The Emerson Rose Heart Foundation. This grant money was used to purchase additional pulse oximeters, which will be used to test for critical congenital heart defects (CCHD).

 In its continuing mission to improve the overall health in our community, Conway Medical Center has joined the American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR). Registry affiliation helps CMC to ensure the best possible patient experience and surgical outcome.

Joshua Gillman, BS, RRT, ACCS, has successfully completed the Adult Critical Care Specialty Examination. This credential is administered by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
