August 1, 2007- Conway, SC- The Conway Medical Center Foundation was recently presented a donation for $100,000 from the Burroughs & Chapin Company to assist in the funding of the medical center’s HEALTHREACH program, the hospital’s initiative to offer quality healthcare programs and education to improve the overall health of the community. The HEALTHREACH program began in 1997, as an outreach effort to assist the medically underserved population of Horry County by providing free medical care and education to individuals in our area who do not qualify for Medicaid, yet are still uninsured. The program includes the HEALTHREACH mobile medical van, which travels to rural areas in Horry County providing free cholesterol and blood glucose screenings, prostate cancer screenings, breast cancer screenings, dental screenings, etc. Other areas benefiting from this gift include the Backpack Buddies program, the Friendship House Medical Clinic, diabetes education, maternal child care education, palliative care and the hospital’s chaplaincy program. Berns Massey, Executive Director of the Conway Medical Center Foundation, states “We are very grateful to the Burroughs and Chapin Company for making this commitment to our program. Their support has been vital to the success of HEALTHREACH and has enabled its growth. We look forward to further expansion and reaching more of the underserved population in our area.” The CMC Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation established in 1988 as a charitable organization to provide support for Conway Medical Center.
