The legacy society

For more than 20 years, the Conway Medical Center Foundation has been helping Conway Medical Center bring better health to life for the people of our community. Among its many programs established to achieve this goal, the CMC Foundation has created the Legacy Society, a special group of donors whose gifts offer a stable source of funds for long term support of Conway Medical Center.

Over the years, many generous businesses, organizations, families and individuals with ties to Conway Medical Center, have established endowments through the CMC Foundation in honor or memory of a loved one to support a variety of the Medical Center’s programs and services. Gifts earmarked for a specific endowment are invested and work in perpetuity to support the mission of Conway Medical Center. These special gifts serve as a permanent legacy to create a positive impact on the quality of life and health of our community for generations to come.

Our Endowments

Through the generosity of many families, individuals, businesses and organizations, numerous endowments have been created through the Conway Medical Center Foundation. These endowments will impact the health and well being of our community for generations to come.

Many endowments bear the name of the original donors. However, anyone may contribute to any endowment, named or general, at any time.

• The Conway Medical Center Auxiliary Endowment- The Conway Medical Center Auxiliary Endowment was established in 1998.  This endowment underscores the Auxiliary's commitment to the mission of Conway medical Center and assures an ongoing source of revenue to be used to fund community health outreach initiatives aimed at helping children.

• The Conway Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship Endowment- The Conway Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship Endowment was established in 2001.  Funds from this endowment will be used to assist a prospective Conway Medical Center employee to obtain the education and training necessary for a nursing degree.

•  The Conway Medical Center Board of Trustees Endowment- Established in 2007 by the Conway Medical Center Board of Trustees, the Board of Trustees recognizes that patient safety is central to quality health care as reflected in the Hippocratic Oath, "Above all, do no harm."  The fund shall be used to promote patient safety within Conway Medical Center.

• The Dr. L. B. Courtney Family Endowment- Established in 2006 by the Dr. L. B. Courtney, long time pediatrician and medical staff member at Conway Medical Center, gifts to this endowment will assist Conway Medical Center providing the best in pediatric care.

• The Margaret Elizabeth "Bessie" Creel Endowment- The "Bessie" Creel Endowment was established in 2000 in memory of Margaret Elizabeth "Bessie" Creel.  Proceeds from this endowment have been designated to fund nursing scholarships.

• The Diane W. Dale Endowment- Established by Mr. Jerry Dale in honor of his wife, gifts to this endowment will help provide support for those requiring mammograms and associated examinations with no means to pay for the services.

• The Delia Family Endowment- The Delia Family Endowment was established in 2003 by Dr. Claude William Delia honoring his late wife, Mrs. Jeanne Wetmore Delia.  Proceeds from this endowment have been designated to assist Conway Medical Center in providing quality pathology services. 

• The Lillian Fowler Endowment- The Lillian Fowler Endowment was established in 1999 by Mrs. Lillian H. Fowler.  Proceeds from this endowment have been designated to fund nursing scholarships.

• The Gilland Endowment- Dr. and Mrs. John deSaussure Gilland established the Gilland Endowment with Conway Medical Center Foundation in 1997.  Gifts made to the Gilland Endowment will be used in perpetuity to improve the health care for members of our community. 

• The Bonnie Hughes Endowment- Mr. Steve Hughes established the Bonnie Hughes Endowment in honor of his wife Bonnie, in 2001.  Proceeds from this endowment have been designated to fund nursing scholarships.

• The Buff Tanner Massey Memorial Endowment- In 2004, Mr. John Massey established the Buff Tanner Massey Memorial Endowment.  Mrs. Massey suffered with diabetes for many years prior to her death in September 2004.  Gifts to this endowment will assist Conway Medical Center in providing diabetic education for persons in our area who suffer with the disease.

• The Gail H. Moss Endowment- Established by Mr. Jay D. Moss to honor his wife Gail, this endowment will assist in providing scholarships for Conway Medical Center employees who wish to further their education in nursing.

• The Pathology and Laboratory Endowment- Established in 2007 by an anonymous donor to assist Conway Medical Center in providing the highest quality pathology and laboratory services.

• Dr. and Mrs. Edward L. Proctor Endowment- Dr. and Mrs. Edward L. Proctor established the Proctor Endowment in 1997.  The endowment reaffirms their on going commitment to improving the overall health of our community.

• The Ray/Watson Endowment- Charley and Dianne Ray established the Ray/Watson Endowment in 2001 in honor of Hubert C. Watson and his wife, the late Mildred. L. Thompson Watson.  Proceeds from this endowment provide funding for nursing scholarships.

• The Dr. Paul E. Sasser Memorial Endowment- The Dr. Paul E. Sasser Memorial Endowment was established in 2002 by Mr. George F. "Buddy" Sasser, Mrs. Joan S. Coker and Mrs. Sara Margaret S. Oyster.  Gifts to this endowment will be used to assist Conway Medical Center in offering the best in compassionate, quality health care and prevention efforts for children in the community.

• The Louise Dorsey Strickland Endowment- The Louise Dorsey Strickland Endowment was established in 1998 by Mrs. Louise Dorsey Strickland.  Gifts designated to this endowment are used to provide medical attention to those unable to obtain quality health care in our community.

• The Mr. and Mrs. Jeff C. Whittington Endowment- The Mr. and  Mrs. Jeff C. Whittington Endowment was established in 1996 by Jeff and Bernice Whittington.  The Whittington's have always been interested in helping children and gifts designated to their endowment are used to promote health and well-being of children in Horry County.

• The Griffin Family Endowment- Established in 2008 by Mr. Robert R. Griffin, Jr. in honor of his parents, Dr. and Mrs. William R. Griffin.  Gifts to this endowment are used to enhance the level of healthcare given to patients at Conway Medical Center. 

• The Clayton Family Endowment - Mr. and Mrs. Philip Clayton established the Clayton Family Endowment in 2011 to ensure excellence in patient care.
