William E. Wheeler, MD

William Wheeler, MD,

Wound Care

Dr. William Wheeler brings exceptional surgical expertise and compassionate care to Conway Medical Center's Wound Care department. As a board-certified general surgeon with decades of experience, Dr. Wheeler understands that chronic wounds can significantly impact your quality of life, and he's dedicated to helping you heal completely and prevent future complications.

What sets Dr. Wheeler apart is his comprehensive background in surgery, academics, and specialized wound care. Having served as chief of surgery at multiple hospitals and as a tenured associate professor at Marshall University, he combines extensive clinical experience with the latest evidence-based treatments. His six years working in burn units and over 30 published articles reflect his deep commitment to advancing wound care medicine.

Dr. Wheeler's approach to treatment goes beyond just healing your current wound – he focuses on addressing underlying causes and helping you make lifestyle changes that promote healing and prevent recurrence. His patients appreciate his thorough evaluation process and his use of the most advanced wound care technologies, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy, biological products, and negative pressure wound therapy.

Having dedicated his career entirely to wound care after 15 years in private practice, Dr. Wheeler brings both surgical precision and specialized wound healing expertise to every patient interaction. He takes time to educate patients about their conditions and treatment options, ensuring you're an active partner in your healing journey.

Dr. Wheeler's commitment to helping others extends well beyond the clinic. He actively participates in community service through Meals on Wheels, local soup kitchens, and first responder work. His mission trips to the Dominican Republic, where he provides wound care and surgical services, reflect his dedication to making healthcare accessible to those in need.

Dr. Wheeler and his wife, a school nurse, share a passion for healthcare and community service. They enjoy spending time with their two sons and three grandsons, traveling, playing golf, and participating in church activities. Their dog Yaya is also an important part of their family.

Dr. Wheeler looks forward to helping patients in Conway achieve complete healing and return to their active lifestyles through expert, compassionate wound care.
