A quick reference for what to expect at every stage, from your baby’s first week through the teen years.
What’s Covered at Each Well Visit?
Every well-child visit covers a little more than a height and weight check. Your child’s pediatrician watches for developmental milestones. They answer the questions that come up at that exact age. They also make sure vaccines and screenings stay on schedule.
These age-based guides help you prepare for each visit. You can also use them as a reference at home afterward. They’re built on the Bright Futures program from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). This is the same set of guidelines your child’s pediatrician follows at every checkup. Each guide is written for parents in plain language. It covers the topics that matter most at your child’s current age and stage.
Birth to 2 Years
The first two years bring the most frequent well visits, and for good reason. Your baby’s growth, feeding, sleep and development are changing fast. Small adjustments at each visit can make a big difference.

2 Years and Beyond
It’s easy to assume the hardest part is behind you once your child turns 2. But well visits matter just as much in the years that follow. Your toddler is about to become a curious preschooler. Then a busy grade-schooler. Then a teenager navigating puberty, friendships and independence. Each stage brings its own questions, from potty training to screen time to talking about safety. Regular well visits give you a chance to ask those questions early, before they turn into bigger worries. They also give your pediatrician the chance to catch changes while they’re easiest to address.
Questions Between Visits?
These guides are meant to complement your child’s well visits, not replace them. If something comes up before your next scheduled checkup, don’t wait. Your pediatrician would rather hear from you sooner.
Vaccination Schedule
Vaccines are one of the most effective ways to protect your child from serious illness. That’s why CMC Pediatrics follows the immunization schedule set by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the leading authority on children’s health in the United States. This schedule is updated each year based on the latest research, and it lays out exactly which vaccines your child needs and when.
You can view the full, up-to-date schedule directly from the AAP below. If you have questions about a specific vaccine, or where your child stands on the schedule, your pediatrician is always happy to walk you through it at your next visit.
Common Concerns & Conditions
Not every question fits neatly into an age or a scheduled visit. Some come up out of nowhere, like a fever that leads to a seizure or a rash that won’t clear up. Others are ongoing, like sleep struggles, potty training, or talking with your teen about tough topics. This collection covers common conditions, symptoms and subjects that come up between well visits, so you have somewhere to turn before or after you call our office.
