Taking a swing at a healthier Horry County

Just two short weeks after the excitement of our tennis classic, the 29th annual CMC Golf Classic got off to an uncertain start.  Cool temps and rain in the forecast determined a shortened event.  Even with the last-minute change, the weather certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of our players!  

Thanks to the help of our sponsors and volunteers, our players enjoyed a fun-filled tournament. A welcome reception at the Four Points Myrtle Beach, an eventful day of golf at Myrtlewood Golf Club, and a player reception at locally owned Grand Strand Brewing.  A delicious breakfast and lunch, refreshments, and top gear from names like Straight Down and Taylor Made Golf brought all the sunshine we needed. 

With flight winners headed out during the coldest and wettest part of the day, the competition was steep.  After a neck and neck shootout, our winners revealed themselves as Abby and Billy, husband and wife team representing one of our Presenting Sponsors, Proxysys.  This marks the first time that a woman has won the coveted CMC Golf Classic Trophy.  

 With over 200 attendees, the CMC Foundation Golf Classic raised over $100,000 towards Foundation Initiatives that directly impact our community. None of this would be possible without the support of our sponsors, community, players, volunteers, staff, and the CMC Administrative team.  Harley Shelley, CMC Foundation Development Officer shares, “we know that golfers have come to expect nothing short of the best from the CMC Golf Classic.  It’s an honor to continue to deliver an outstanding experience to our golfers as the premier golf classic of Myrtle Beach.”
