Dr. Simone Maybin one of 13 ChangeMakers named on the Grand Strand
Dr. Simone Maybin, an interventional pain management specialist at CMC Orthopaedics, has been named to the 2022 Grand Strand ChangeMakers class. The group of 13 community leaders on the Grand Strand have demonstrated a commitment to service and the potential to truly move South Carolina forward.
The class will kick off in January with an orientation and networking reception for each of the honorees and their guests. Throughout the spring, these ChangeMakers will work both individually and as a cohort to raise financial support for Students In Action, Multiplying Good’s flagship youth leadership development program that uses service-learning as the vehicle for arming high schoolers with the life skills necessary for success in college, career, and beyond. The ChangeMakers will also participate in volunteer, community, and other networking activities each month with the goal of raising awareness of Students In Action and inspiring even more young leaders to do their part. The program will culminate in May 2022 with a celebration event, recognizing each of the honorees with a Jefferson Award and celebrating all they have accomplished to make a difference in the greater Myrtle Beach community.
“As a physician, if you want to understand your patient population better, then immerse yourself into the community,” said Dr. Maybin. “This opportunity is a unique way to gain perspective. With ChangeMakers, I hope to learn from the other 12 Grand Strand leaders and foster a culture of civic duty. I’m excited to join the efforts with our young students to elevate and improve the community in a special way.”
Dr. Maybin graduated from the United States Air Force Academy with a bachelor’s degree in biology. Nationally, the Jefferson Award is the country’s most prestigious honor for service and volunteerism, and honorees—individuals including such notable figures as Barbara Bush, Oprah Winfrey, Peyton Manning, Elaine Wynn, and many others—make up a storied group of American heroes whose dedication to service has inspired others to lead.
