Imaging plays an important role in your health and treatment. The radiology services at CMC act as a second set of eyes for your doctor. What they can’t see on the inside of your body can be seen clearly with the use of modern imaging techniques By making the invisible visible, your medical team can gain a better understanding of what’s going on in your body and build a treatment plan just for you.
The imaging services at CMC are used for preventative health screenings, to diagnose the causes of existing symptoms, and to monitor existing conditions and treat them. Some of the different types of imaging we use are X-rays, CT (computed tomography) scans, 3T MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) with Air Recon DL technology, ultrasound, and 3D mammography. Each imaging type uses a different technology to create the snapshots that are then analyzed by our radiologists.

The imaging department is a modern, progressive department staffed by qualified professional including nationally registered and state certified technologists, and board-certified radiologists that rivals other larger hospitals across the country. Our expert radiologists and staff stay on the cusp of this advancing and ever-changing technology and are trusted resources for your doctors. Once the proper exam is determined, your radiologist reviews and interprets the results of your images that your doctor then uses to direct your care.
In some instances, your radiologist will use imaging services to treat medical conditions – not just diagnose problems. This is called interventional radiology. Doctors use medical imaging to guide minimally invasive surgical procedures for treatment for various purposes. From corrective procedures for varicose veins to targeted radiation therapy for various cancers, this type of imaging offers a host of life changing procedures that are minimally invasive and effective.

Answers Other Scans Can Miss
Some scans show how your body looks. SPECT/CT also shows how it is working. SPECT stands for single photon emission computed tomography. First, a small amount of a safe tracer is injected into a vein. Then a special camera tracks where the tracer collects and builds 3D images. Finally, those images are combined with a CT scan for precise detail.
As a result, your doctor can see both the structure of an area and how active it is. SPECT/CT helps diagnose conditions of the heart, brain and bones. For example, it can find hidden stress fractures and check blood flow to the heart. It can also show whether cancer has spread to the bone.
Advanced Spine Imaging for Hard-to-Diagnose Back Pain
SPECT/CT of the spine is a specialized test that many hospitals do not offer. At CMC, it is available right here in Conway. This scan highlights areas of increased bone activity in the spine. Because of this, it can help pinpoint the source of pain when an MRI shows more than one possible cause.
CMC spine and pain specialists use spine SPECT/CT to guide care. For instance, it can add helpful clues when deciding if a patient may benefit from the Intracept Procedure. It can also show whether a spinal fusion has healed. Your doctor reviews the results alongside your symptoms, exam and other imaging.
