The acquisition will add 43 employees to the CMC team.
The expansion comes as Horry County continues to experience significant population and economic growth, creating an increasing need for accessible, high quality healthcare close to where people live, work and raise their families.
“This is an important milestone for Conway Medical Center and for the people of Horry County,” said Brian Argo, president and CEO of Conway Medical Center. “Our community is growing, and we have a responsibility to grow with it. Urgent care is a natural fit alongside the emergency care we provide in Conway and the two freestanding emergency departments we’re building. Together, they give people more ways to reach the right care at the right time, and the CMC experience closer to home.”
The new urgent care locations will complement CMC’s emergency services by giving patients another option for medical needs that don’t require emergency department level care. The addition of the physical therapy clinic on 21st Ave also expands CMC’s outpatient services and provides greater access to rehabilitation and recovery closer to home.
“Urgent care plays an important role in treating acute, non life threatening conditions, while our emergency departments stay focused on serious and life threatening ones,” said Dr. Paul Richardson, chief medical officer of Conway Medical Center. “More access points across Horry County means we can help patients find the right level of care, and keep their care connected whether they start at an urgent care clinic, need emergency services, or follow up with a specialist.”
“Growth only matters when it improves care for the people who call this community home,” Argo said. “Horry County is changing rapidly, and we want healthcare to keep pace. These new locations allow us to be there for patients in more communities, and we’re proud to keep building a health system that grows with Horry County.”
CMC Physical Therapy – 21st Ave is expected to reopen under CMC on October 22. The four urgent care clinics will transition on a rolling schedule, with CMC Urgent Care – Carolina Forest and CMC Urgent Care – Little River opening November 2, CMC Urgent Care – 21st Ave opening November 9, and CMC Urgent Care – Surfside Beach opening November 16.
